The Mister and I have a thing that we do when one of us is out. One of us with text the other to see if there is anything we need to pick up before heading home and the reply always includes a “big bag of money“. Last night I was picking up a few things at the grocery store and when I came out there was a Brinks truck sitting outside. I wanted to take a picture of the back of the truck to send to Mister with a message that said “Do we need a big bag of money? They’re on sale and practically giving them away!”” but apparently taking pictures of Brinks trucks and trying to joke with the armed guards is frowned upon and makes the armed guards grumpy, even during this festive holiday season. I had to wait in the parking lot until they left and did my best to take a sneaky shot to send to the Mister. After lying low and capturing what must be the blurriest photo ever, I forgot to send it to the Mister. Heh!
Those armed guards really need to lighten up and take the giant sticks out of their butts. Next time I’ll offer them a Peppermint Mocha before asking to take a photo for the blog.
Now on to Friday Five Link Up with the DC Trifecta Girls.
On Monday Yuri in a Hurry posted:
Yuri answered 5 questions in that post and challenged other running bloggers, or bloggers who run, to a 30 day challenge:
I challenge all my fellow running bloggers (and those who want to start) to start your own 30 day blogging challenge. It would be a great way to kick of the new year! Not only did answering the running questions help introduce me to my followers, it also gave me a chance to reflect on my experiences as a runner!
I’m terrible at follow through on anything longer than a week so I thought I would take 5 of the questions from Yuri’s Tumblr and answer them for today’s 5 for Friday.
1 – When did you start running and why? I started running in May of 2013 to prepare for a workplace supported 5k walk/run race. I had 5 weeks to train and honestly thought that I would stop running once race day was over but I didn’t. Something changed and I felt different. I slept better, I ate better and I felt better physically and mentally. I was getting up at 5:30, lacing up my shoes and watching the sun rise over the fields while everyone else in my house was still sleeping. I liked who I was becoming even though I still didn’t consider myself a “runner”.
2 – What ultimate running goal would you like to accomplish? I would love to take on a full marathon. I have set my sites on Sydney, Australia for September 2015 and have already started saving for it.
3 – What advice would you give to someone looking into running? Do it! There’s going to be day’s you don’t want to run, those are the days you have to run. Join a walk/run clinic in your area, if you don’t have any clinics in your area find support online, through colleagues, through friends that run. Get yourself a properly fitted pair of shoes and if you’re a lady get a good running bra … even if you’re a member of the Itty-Bitty Titty Committee you want to keep the girls in check.
4 – What is your favorite pre-run snack or meal? What is your favorite post-run snack or meal? I run in the morning, after I have sent Little off to school, so I try to keep my pre-run meal light. Usually it’s a smoothie with yougurt, fruit, whey protein, nut butter and almond milk. Some day’s it’s toast with peanut butter, yougurt and some fruit. After a run it’s usually a bagel with cream cheese and a big glass of milk. I like to call these meals Breakfast 1 and Breakfast 2.
5 – What is the strangest or most embarrassing thing that has ever happened to you on a run? I’ve blogged about it before here. I have pooped my pants on more than one occasion. I have also peed myself. If you ask the Google Gods they tell you it’s common in women who have had children and are on the *ahem* mature side. Remind me to share this information with Big 1 and Big 2 … they are 2/3 of the reason I pee myself while running and I think it is important I share this information with them.
Next week I would like to do a 5 for Friday Vlog that answers YOUR questions about me. Ask anything (ANYTHING?) in the comment section and I will randomly select 5 of your questions to answer next week. No topic is off limit unless it is something that I wouldn’t say in front of my Mum … she reads my blog … and I’m kinda trying to keep it clean here folks.
Want to know what brand of tampons I use? How I manage to look so awesome all the time? What Mister, Little and the Big’s real names are? What makes me cry/laugh/snort? Why do I pee when I run?
On the plus side you get to hear my funny Canadian accent and I will try to say “toque” “aboot” and “eh” at least 10 times while wearing the dogs reindeer antlers and a foam red nose. Who doesn’t want to see that?!?
