5 for Friday #7

Happy Friday! I am linking up with the DC Trifecta Friday Five again today.

Eat Pray Run DC   Mar on the Run   You Signed Up For What?

Today’s 5 for Friday is all about Right Now

Dunwaetin Right Now

1 Right Now I am Thinking– What the hell have I gotten myself into with signing up for 30k? I ran once over the Christmas Holidays and the lack of running for two weeks has taken a toll. I found myself struggling on Wednesday’s 8k run, a run that just last month would have felt like an easy walk in the park. As a runner I have noticed 99.99% of everything I do is a mental game. One moment I am telling myself “Screw it, take the DNS/DNF” and next I’m envisioning myself crossing that finish line with a smile on my face. I’m like a multi-personality person who is in need of some therapy. The only pressure I have for this race is the pressure I have put on myself. I’m not there to qualify for anything or win prize money, I am there to complete a goal I have set for myself so I will only be focusing on my endurance for this race, not speed. I have taken the pressure of any goal time out of my agenda. My goal will be to finish. PERIOD. And I am feeling better about the race already.

2 Right Now I am Eating– Toast left over from Little’s breakfast. It’s cold and chewy but I’m too lazy right now to get off of my ass and make something else.

3 Right Now My TV Boyfriend isJosh Holloway. Formerly Sawyer on Lost, Josh is back on TV and starring in Intelligence. You can find him on CBS Monday night at 10pm Eastern. It also has a bunch of other actors in it but who cares about them when you can stare at Josh for an hour and pause the DVR when he takes his shirt off.

4 Right Now I Should Be – Running the 10k in my training schedule but …

5 Right Now I am– Trying to get this post up before noon. Taking a break over the holidays has made my brain and body a little mushy and I am finding it hard to focus on what I NEED to do as opposed to what I WANT to do. I NEED to run the 10k today but I WANT to sit around in my jammies and have a nap. MUST.FOCUS.ON.NEED.

What are you doing Right Now? What SHOULD you be doing Right Now?

Who is your TV/Movie/Broadway/Radio Boyfriend?

Meet Anita

I am a wife to a retired Army Captain and present day shepherd, a mother to two Big's (20 & 19) and one Little (6) and new to running at the age of 42. I am hopelessly addicted to Starbucks Peppermint Mocha's. My family thinks I am crazy. The voices in my head say they may be right.

  1. Good luck on your race, you will totally get your endurance back and the runs will feel easier. Right now I am reading blogs and taking a bit of a break, I should be working on a slide deck. I will get to it in about 10 mins :)

    • I logged the 10k later that afternoon and felt good about it, slow but good. Found out today the treadmill has been on a 2-3% incline when the display was showing 0% so I have literally been running uphill for the past week! No wonder I felt so sluggish :)

  2. I love this line: ” I’m like a multi-personality person who is in need of some therapy.” Running makes me feel that way sometimes as well. Some days its so great and others its like I just can’t do it. I just try and take each day as they come — because really that’s all you can do!

  3. I think the less pressure you put on yourself for time the better you will end up doing with it. Good luck, but I really think you’ll be just fine. :)

I should be doing some photo editing, but instead I’m getting caught up with some of my favorite blogs. :) And now I want toast even if it’s chewy.

    • The worst pressure is the pressure we put on ourselves. I would never let a friend get down on themselves like I did but it’s hard not to do it to ourselves. How crazy is that?

      That’s why I adore you :)

  4. It is hard to get back into the grove of things after the holidays. The first step is always the hardest!

  6. Anita, there is nothing to it but to do it. Once you get out there and get moving you will start to feel better. I took two weeks off too and my first run was rough but once I was through it, I felt amazing. I’ll be cheering you on from Maryland, USA!

  7. LOL!! I am seconding Courtney’s calling out of “I’m like a multi-personality person who is in need of some therapy.” I laughed. out loud. pretty hard. 😉 You’re right, this is all a mental game. you’ll get your mojo back, in the mean time, keep that sense of humor :) it’s working for ya!!
