5 for Friday #9 – People in Your Neighbourhood

Happy Friday! I am linking up with the DC Trifecta Friday Five again today.

Ear Worm for the day … You’re Welcome!

When I began blogging again in September I started finding and following a few Running Bloggers but most of them were from the US. When I would come across another Canadian Blogger who was also a Runner I would get rather excited because Canadians get other Canadians. We log our runs in kilometers, not miles; ask for the bill, not the check, when dining at our favorite restaurants; lead the world in Maple Syrup and asteroid impacts; our Mountain Dew contains no caffeine; we throw the letter “U” into words like Honour, Labour and Neighbourhood because we can, and if you sell edible underwear in your Adult Entertainment store in Toronto you are required to have a food licence. We invented the telephone, television, the zipper, the music synthesizer, and basketball . When we run outside in the winter we wear our toques to keep our noggins warm while being chased by polar bears and wild moose. OK, maybe that last part was stretching the truth a little but that’s because most Canadian’s are all about not taking life too seriously and enjoying a Double-Double at Timmie’s with a friend or two.

Oh and a little FYI for my US readers – here in the Great White North we pronounce Z as ZED, not ZEE and the word “about” sounds way more like “a boat” than “aboot.” when spoken by a Canadian eh.

When I found out that Crystal of Running with Rhyno had created a Facebook Group for Canadian Running Bloggers (and those who love them) I nearly peed my pants with excitement! There were a lot of Canadian Running Bloggers here on the world wide web and that makes my Maple Syrup-Asteroid Avoiding-DoubleDouble-Mountie Loving heart happy!

CRB is open to all Canadian running bloggers (& their fans). No passports required.

This group was created to recognize and celebrate the distinctly Canadian running experience. You run in -25C and call it “not so cold today.” You clock your distance in kilometres not miles. You run in the four seasons and have a wardrobe for each one. You may see everything from a moose to a bear on your 5K run.

Yup, that’s the Canadian experience.

This week’s 5 for Friday is all about (<— see what I did there?) highlighting some of these great Canadians and their blogs I have been introduced to in this group.

Today I am sharing 5 Bloggers from Ontario, Canada that I am following and think you should follow too.

1. Bexx at Miss Bexx –  Bexx is a sports fan, runner, joker, socks-rarely-matcher, lover of neon coloured things; fitness advocate, coach, wine marketer, dreamer and believer.  Follow Bexx on Twitter.

2. Stephanie at Stephanie Runs – New to the Blogosphere and Motherhood, Stephanie began blogging in December about her love of running, fitness, cheese & good food. She is a personal trainer and a new mom. Follow Stephanie on Twitter

3. Kenny at A Whole Lot of Soles – Kenny has been running long-distance for 10 years and blogging since 2005. He has run 26 marathons (26!) and is still having fun. Follow Kenny on Twitter

4.  Patrick at The Rendezvoo Point – Patrick has blogged since 2007 and is currently training for his first Ultra Marathon.  I have followed Patrick on Twitter for some time now and only just realized he blogs too. Follow Patrick on Twitter

5. Brian at Strides  Brian has blogged about running since 2012. Humble and thoughtful, he writes about his running with humour and honesty. Follow Brian on Twitter

Next Week on 5 for Friday – 5 New to Me Canadian Bloggers from Alberta!

Have you had the opportunity to meet up with other bloggers in your neighbourhood through Facebook or any other groups?

Have you met with any Bloggers in real-life? Was it everything you expected?

Meet Anita

I am a wife to a retired Army Captain and present day shepherd, a mother to two Big's (20 & 19) and one Little (6) and new to running at the age of 42. I am hopelessly addicted to Starbucks Peppermint Mocha's. My family thinks I am crazy. The voices in my head say they may be right.

    • Yes! Heather is in Nova Scotia and part of the group on Facebook. She’s awesome and I’ll be highlighting her during my Atlantic provinces post in a few weeks.

What part of Canada does your sister come to for work?

  5. Anita, thanks for the shoutout, today was one of my long days at work and at some point I realized I was popping up on Twitter but it took me forever to figure out WHY (I am SUCH a Twitter neophyte)! Thank you for the kind words about Strides, I feel very honoured. Am loving this CRB thing! Cheers!

  6. Awesome post. I always say the plural of moose should be meese. Well at least it works for Canadian Geese! Will be sure to check out the fellow Canadian Blogs, glad you recommended them.

    • Thanks Shawn, love when I come across other crazy Canucks … if you’re on Facebook you should follow the link in the post and join us!

  7. Such a cool idea promoting blogs from your area! I don’t have that many bloggers near me or even in Australia they are fewer and farer between than in the US and Canada.

I hope you are having a great weekend!
